Saturday // F11/10 // 10 Mile TT // Hosted by Hemel Hempstead CC
This weekend was a big weekend for ARCC TTers. Paul Blamire & Grant Bateman made the not-so-long trip to one of the country’s fastest 10-mile TT courses the F11/10 on the A41 near Tring. This event always sells out its 150 entries with riders coming from as far away as Newcastle to compete.
With a previous best of 20:48 set in 2019 Paul was keen to give it his all but felt like a PB was unlikely, suggesting his fastest days were behind him. Not a bit of it! Paul recorded a scorching time of 20:33, taking 15 seconds off his PB & reigniting his belief he can get under 20 mins, the holy grail in 10-mile TTing.
Having only just scrapped into the event with a PB of 21:30 (you needed a PB of 21:45 to be eligible for the men’s event) I was over the moon & in disbelief at recording an 18:57 on a magic day where it all came together. This also lowered the ARCC record from 20:20 set on this course by Jonathan Williams in 2018.
Sunday // H50/4 // 50 Mile TT // WLC Rd 5 // Hosted by Ful-On Tri
The main event of the weekend saw 7, seven! ARCC riders take on the fearsome 50m TT on the A413. Too many for me to get all the stories, but between us we had riders going for PBs, first timers, riders focussed on the ARCC points comp, TT bikes, road bikes & an age range from 30s-60s.
Pre-race it was quiet with riders helping pin numbers on each other, getting warmed up but definitely with trepidation in the air.
Post-race couldn’t have been more different, all 7 of us were swapping stories from our individual efforts, eating cake, and getting nerdy about aerodynamics before laughing at the nerdiness. I don’t know when ARCC last had 7 riders ride the local 50 but it felt like a great turn out & I’d like to thank the other 6 for such a great vibe making the whole morning a more enjoyable affair & taking my mind off the pain in my legs post-race.

02/07/23 // Chiltern Velo // From 1:30pm
The idea is that for this week only our normal Sunday club ride will start & finish at Chiltern Velo (they’ve arranged extra parking for us). Four challenging routes have been created with the famous Chiltern Velo T-shirt being the inspiration. There should be something for everyone in these four routes but if not groups are welcome to create their own route. The only rule is to buy a heavily subsidised ticket & make sure you finish at Chiltern Velo at 1:30-2pm (this may mean your group needs to start earlier than 9am) for the ARCC BBQ 😊
