It was an early start last Sunday for the 57 riders and 20+ ARCC volunteers running the WLC
Great Missenden Time Trial, but come 6:15am we were ready and waiting in HQ to get
everyone signed on, answer any questions, and keep everyone fuelled with complimentary tea,
coffee & cakes (all homemade by Christine, Jo, Bex, Fiona, & Claire)
On the way to the start line riders were checked for working lights & helmets by Paul M.
Once ready, they were under starter Caroline’s orders & being held upright by Giles allowing
them to be clipped in for a flying start.
Within 100m they were greeted by their first marshal Jo as they joined the A413 from the slip
road to start heading down to Jig & Jordan on the first Wendover roundabout followed by Alan
& Stew on the far Wendover roundabout.
Coming back past Great Missenden riders had the friendly faces of Gareth & Ben C before
heading down to the Shardeloes roundabout where Paul B & Michael waited.
At the finish, we had Andy, Ben S & Nick H doing a fine job getting every rider’s time, no easy
task when 5 come across the line within a few seconds!
Just beyond them was Rich who was performing the traffic count. I’m really glad to say that
moving the event 1 hour earlier meant a significant reduction in traffic, yes the TT takes place on
an A road but this means a wide road with a good line of sight for drivers to perform a safe
overtake.
All of this was expertly captured by Matt & Darren with their shared album viewable here.
The oldest rider was 74, while the youngest was 21.
We had riders from 9 local clubs! ARCC, Beaconsfield CC, Ful-On-Tri, Kenton RC, Twickenham
CC, Westerly CC, Watford Velo Sport, High Wycombe CC & Hillingdon Tri Club.
The rider most keen to get back for some cake took 1:00:31 while the rider most deserving of
some cake took 1:36:02.
From ARCC specifically, we had 3 riders;
- Nicola Conner | TT V50
- Paul Guckian | RB V40
- Ed Morris | TT V40
As each was in a separate category they each score 10 points in the season-long ARCC TT
points competition. Fear not, it’s a best-of-5 competition so they’re all still catchable!
Special mention for Nicola who was doing her first ever TT, went off first & showed everyone
how it’s done 👏
These events simply can’t happen without a considerable number of people giving up their time
so a big thank you to everyone involved.
