Road Bikes rule the TT

Saturday morning saw the 4th in the season of the ARCC 10mile time trials (11th June 2022). With the sun shining and comfortable temperatures, it was looking good for some fast times.

Well, as a pro cyclist with a keen interest in pharmaceuticals once said “it’s not about the bike”. Well that rang true today as the Road Bike trounced the Time Trial aero kings.

With few regulars missing and a G3 trip to Isle of Wight, only 4 keen ARCC members turned up at the Thame Road lay-by in Longwick. Their faces just about holding back their feelings with everything ranging from excitement, joy and intrigue.

First out the blocks was Dan Webster aka the Animal. This week Dan was sporting some clip on aerobars attached to his beautiful Feather steel framed road bike.
2nd off saw Sam Carter on his new amazing S-Works SL7. 1min later came the TT bikes and pointy helmets.
Jordan Trace rolled off the start line 3rd on his trusty white BMC Time Machine that saw him claim victory last time round, followed shortly after by Darran Eggleton on his newly bought Canyon Speedmax.

Conditions were OK but riders still had to work hard to battle a significant cross-wind, a weather system that appears to be particularly popular in the Longwick area.

Anyway, the event went without incident and fun was had by all.

So, as it said at the beginning, the “it’s not about the bike” saying rang true as the riders finished in the order they went out (although we are talking TOP END road bikes here!).

Dan put up a blistering time of 22:57, followed by Sam with a possible new ARCC road bike record of 23:11 (matching his TT bike time (🤷🏻‍♂️)), third was Jordan with a new PB of 23:34, and Darran, with much work to do on his position, in 4th with 24:34.

Nevertheless fun was had by all and a massive thanks goes out to Paul Blamire for putting the event on.
