Club Update – 26th November 2024

Good afternoon ARCC Rouleurs,

Welcome to the November Edition of the chairman broadcast. Early snow and a cold spell this month! While it may be discouraging to watch one’s fingers turn blue to the extent of being able to blend in within the Smurf village, do not despair! Zwift season has started and so have ARCC Zwift rides every Sunday…. and I’ve heard that Wattopia is rather warm this time of the year. Alternatively, our upcoming Club Dinner this week is offering another opportunity to warm up with a glass of Prosecco and inevitably lots of like minded human beings to share it with. Looking forward to seeing you there!

MAINTENANCE – PRE WINTER CHECKS

This time of the year is ideal for making sure one’s bike is in tip top shape and ready for the wintery season. One recommendation I saw years ago on GCN was that we should all pay closer attention to all the bits nearer to the road, like tyres, wheels, breaks and gear train. If you are confident and know what you are doing and have done it before, go ahead and do not delay those checks. Those less comfortable or simply do not have time, why not book those checks and your “winter” service with friendly Mechanics listed on our club web site and they can let you know if your chain need replacing, put more puncture resistant tyres on, change your break pads and put smile back on your bike’s head tube. This is not only helping our friendly mechanics but more importantly reduces the risk of injuries, yours and others around you, resulting from bike failures during club rides!

SELL/BUY ON ARCC FACEBOOK GROUP

We have added BUY/SELL marketplace within our FACEBOOK Group to enable bike parts and kit exchange within our community. This is a private group only for ARCC members.So, if you have any bike bits you do not need, you can advertise to the whole club membership. Who says that Christmas can’t arrive early. Go ahead and try it out and let us know if it worked for you. All our club members that have not yet joined our Facebook group, should try it out.

CLUB MEMBERSHIP “EARLY BIRD” RENEWAL COMIN’ UP

With December around the corner, a reminder lights up in my Calendar that Early Bird membership renewal is too. our Club is going to be providing a Discount on the ARCC membership for a limited period of time. This in turn also helps tremendously our club to reduce time and resources to process membership renewals. So keep a watchful eye on the email from Stu, our Membership Secretary who will provide us with all the details and let us know of any urgent housekeeping tasks like making sure your British Cycling contact details are correct for example.

NEED MORE GOALS IN ADDITION TO ARCC CHALLENGES PLANNED FOR 2025?

Here is a list of some popular challenges and sportives coming up from now on and in 2025. if you feel you need yet another epic goal in addition to ARCC challenges like Justin’s Club 100, Isle of Wight Ride or Summer Paella Ride, these rides may just be able to tickle that itch.
