Club Update – 12th October 2024

Welcome to the October Edition of the chairman broadcast. Cold and rainy start of the month that even Flemish cyclists would wince at. Saying that, Sunday rides are as busy as always so one has to conclude that we are as hard as our Belgian counterparts. Their advice is not without merit…”Als het slecht weer is, doe dan je sokken over je schoenen en draai harder aan de pedalen”…or “When the weather is bad, put your socks over your shoes and turn pedals harder”

ARCC QUESTIONNAIRE IS HERE!!

As promised, we have got FIRST EVER ARCC Questionnaire prepared so that we can all provide our feedback and gauge better on what we need to focus on in the next year to make our club even better for all of us to enjoy. This questionnaire will touch on the new riding structure and direction of the club as well as tell us what you think of the rides, committee and social events. Thank you in advance for your valuable views, opinions and thoughts !!

Ah yes, it only takes couple of minutes to complete as measured by yours truly.

CONGRATULATIONS RAY!

Ray Bennett recently opened his garage…or shall we say, a museum of his collection of old bikes to ARCC members for small donations which helped him raise £270 for Air Ambulance.

That was not all. In September Ray and his lovely other half Rhona celebrated their Diamond (aka 60th) Anniversary. Congratulations from all of us at ARCC!!

MALLORCA 2025 – 17-24 May

Back by popular demand! Book your stay in the week from 17th-24th May 2024. We have opted for this week to avoid the clash with IRONMAN event taking place week before. If you are planning to stay with PortBlue hotel in Pollentia you can book online here https://www.portbluehotels.com/en/hotels/portblue-club-pollentia-resort-and-spa/

Use AMERSHAM25 code for 5% discount. This will go on top of the discount of BeBlue member which you can subscribe for free for additional 5%-15% here https://www.portbluehotels.com/en/beblue/

Please note that this is not an organised ARCC trip, but we have taken upon ourselves to suggest the location, advise dates and hotel. It is up to individuals to book the holiday and arrange the bike rental and rides themselves, but all can use the routes we have in our rides library https://ridewithgps.com/collections/14868.

EARLY REMINDER – MUDGUARDS FROM 1-NOV

Just an early reminder for all of us looking to get into soggy wintery season. To ensure health and safety and to reduce the chance of your fellow riders behind you looking like Dalmatians who just escaped from becoming Cruela’s fur coat, rear mudguards are compulsory over the winter months. Front mudguards are optional.

Starting from November 1st until March 31st. However, on those rare dry winter Sundays, when it is safe to ride without mudguards, ride leaders may allow riding “al dente” and will announce it before the ride.

That still gives us all a plenty of time to get our bikes kitted out with some decent mudguards.

ARCC DATES TO KEEP IN THE CALENDAR

  • 29th November – ARCC Club Annual Dinner

Thank you for tuning in,
Zoran
