Riding with the ARCC

Bad Weather

– a cautionary note. Suppose the weather forecast looks iffy: freezing overnight, but may warm up a bit Sunday morning. The ride you planned to join is still there on the website. So it must be safe to ride, yes? Not necessarily so! The ARCC Committee is no better at forecasting than you are. You must make your own decision.  If the leader turns up and sets out, it just means he’s prepared to risk it. Of course he may bounce better than you. One view is that at temperatures less than 3C there can still be ice in frost hollows, and this could help you decide.

Plan B

What is Plan B? Well, it stands for Plan B*** Freezing! When the forecast is for icy & dangerous at 9:00 am, but should be OK for an 11:00am start, we will switch to Plan B and have a shorter ride of 40 miles or so. Someone will check the forecast on Friday and a message will appear here on the Home Page, along with the selected route. Please remember to check before you set off on Sunday.

NB There won’t be ‘Situation normal’ message. No message is good news. (Actually it may be wet and miserable, but then it’ll be up to individuals whether they turn up or not, as usual.)
